Registration Open for Children’s Summer Theatre Workshop

My Week as a Wizard

AGE: Students entering 4th grade through students entering 6th grade.

CLASS SIZE: 16 max

DATES: July 8-12, Noon-3 pm

SHOWCASE: Friday, July 12, 2:30 pm

Have you ever wished that you’d wake up one morning with a wand taped to your windowsill and the words “your time has come!” painted across the glass? If so, this workshop is for you! Join us for a one-week workshop where students will work together with local actor, writer & theatre educator, Deanna Sparrow, to bring her short play, My Week as a Wizard, to life. Along the way, students will also play theatre games focused on teamwork and imagination, and learn the basics of acting. The workshop will culminate in a 30-minute showcase for families where students will perform their play!

MATERIALS: Once the roles are cast after the first session, students will be asked to create a costume at home – no purchases required, unless families decide to do so! A call will also be put out for parents to help provide props to be used – again, this can be done with items found around the house, but may be purchased at parent discretion. Once the script is complete, the BLT will provide a copy for students to rehearse with at workshop sessions, as well as take home to work on memorizing their lines for the showcase.
